Chipset Drivers
The Chipset Device Software installs the Windows INF files. An INF is a text file that provides the operating system with information about a piece of hardware on the system. In the case of the current Chipset Device Software, that information is primarily the product name for the piece of hardware. This allows the operating system to show the correct name for that piece of hardware in Device Manager.
These files outline to the operating system how to configure the chipset components in order to ensure that the following features function properly:
Although a particular chipset is designed with a particular motherboard in mind, the manufacturers of the chipsets are often independent from the motherboard makers. These chipsets are run through drivers that determine the speed, stability and function of all devices in the motherboard. It is but crucial that the motherboards are installed with the latest chipset and device drivers to function optimally.
Improper or outdated drivers will result in compatibility problems, lack of features and sub-par performance of these devices. Examples of such problems include loss of audio, minimal graphics resolutions or video settings, loss of network connections and various system errors. However, these chipset drivers were not designed to be downloaded or updated automatically and would be done manually by the user.
